Rafael Nadal has given his seal of approval for the Manacor city council to erect a statue in his honour that will feature a young and an older Nadal next to one another.
Plans for a statue in his hometown of Manacor have been present for a while with Nadal finally approving the sketch for the statue. It's supposed to be installed in the Palace Square in the city and he's by far the most prominent person from Manacor.
One of the greatest tennis players of all time, Nadal is best known for being the record holder for most Roland Garros wins at 14.
The plans for the statue have not yet been made public but according to reports it's supposed to feature him sitting during a break in a match, only this time, it will be a low wall surrounding an olive tree. Next to him will be shown the player's younger version, as the two will be looking at his family home.
On top of that, we'll have two water bottles placed in a perfect position near his feet, just the way the former World No. 1 has been placing them on the courts for years. It's not the first statue he will get as one was erected at Roland Garros a few years ago. Nadal has been out of competition since the Australian Open but he's back to practice on clay.
