Former World No.1 and retired pro Martina Navratilova believes that upcoming American Sebastian Korda is on the path to winning a Grand Slam title within the next few years.
Korda has had a breakthrough season this year, winning his maiden ATP title at Parma in May before reaching the fourth round of Wimbledon. Furthermore, the 21-year old is slated to crack the Top 40 of the ATP Rankings for the first time by the end of the week, as he competes at the ongoing San Diego Open.
Hailing from a sporting family, Korda's father, Petr won the 1998 Australian Open whereas his sisters Nelly and Jessica are both successful on the LPGA Tour, winning multiple titles.
When asked by Tennis channel if Korda could win a Grand Slam, Navratilova responded by stating the American had great potential and she could see him winning one soon.
"Just a matter of time. Seb Korda, a complete player, he keeps his head about him," said Navratilova. "First time I saw him play I’m like ‘he’s already been here’ you know, in his previous life.
“I mean he’s been coached so well by his parents. He’s got such a great game, a great outlook. I think, if not next year, I would say 2023 would be a year for him.”
