Beginning with the 2025 edition, the Davis Cup will adopt a new format as it aims to reintroduce several aspects that have not been used over the past few years.

World No.1 Jannik Sinner led his native Italy to victory at this year's Davis Cup, as they successfully defended their 2023 title. However, the current format has been heavily criticized by players and fans alike, with tournament organizers disappointed at fan reception over recent editions.

Home court advantage to return

The draw that will divide participating nations of the first round, scheduled for February after the Australian Open, will be held on December 2. The 13 teams that have passed the playoff phase of World Group I and the other qualified teams that played in the group stage in 2024 will be involved, excluding Italy as they are the defending champions, and the host of the next edition, rumored to be China.

United States, Australia, Spain, Germany and many others, will have to take to the field. This will generate a greater amount of interest during the early group stages of the multinational event.

Fans will see the return of direct clashes, at the home of one of the two teams. The home court advantage thus returns to being a determining factor in every challenge. Seven teams will secure a spot in the Finals 8 - the last to take part is the host nation - which will not undergo any changes in format compared to last year.

Finally, each match will be the best of five, including four singles and a doubles match over two days. Compared to the past, the best of three sets matches remain confirmed, with a shorter duration.
