Former British number one Greg Rusedski believes
Nick Kyrgios has more talent than Roger Federer but laments the shame of him being uncoachable.
Nick Kyrgios is a very popular player around the tour often drawing large crowds due to his showmanship. His tennis talent is also off the charts with many former and current players speaking on it. Boris Becker once said that Kyrgios not winning Wimbledon at least once would be a great shame.
Former British number one Greg Rusedski shares a smimilar view saying:
“He’s got as much talent if not more talent than Federer or John McEnroe. But it doesn’t matter how ridiculously talented you are, it doesn’t beat hard work, the day-to-day grind and commitment.”
For Rusedski Kyrgios is wasting his talent in a big way with his lack of work and unwillingness to be coached. Greg explained:
"The problem is he doesn’t want a coach. He’s had great influences around him – Lleyton Hewitt, what a great champion he was. The Australian tennis coaches have a fantastic system. There’s nothing I could say to Kyrgios. The only person who can make that decision is himself if he wants to become a champion. He’s more
worried about spats on social media and other things on social media."
Still, his influence in tennis is visible in with a very low commitment to the game. Rusedski believes he could be great for tennis if he only puts in the effort:
“He could be a great guy for the game of tennis, he just doesn’t put
the work and effort in and if you don’t… the older you get, the harder
it becomes.
