Nick Kyrgios pulls out of Japan Open minutes before singles match against Fritz

Nick Kyrgios was supposed to take on Taylor Fritz in the Japan Open quarter-final minutes before the match was supposed to start.

The Aussie player was supposed to play Fritz in the singles quarterfinals and he was also supposed to play in the doubles semi-finals but none of that will be happening as he pulled out of the event. It's unclear what happened to Kyrgios as he looked completely fine in the previous rounds but he did admit to suffering from asthma-related breathing problems in round one.

It's a huge dent in his aspirations to qualify for Turin but if Wimbledon points counted he would be there. Unfortunately, they don't this year. Fritz moves on to the semi-finals, his 3rd of the year. He won all previous events where he reached at least the semi-finals.

Nick Kyrgios withdraws from Tokyo, where he would play singles QFs and doubles SFs today. Hoping for nothing serious, but a big blow on his ATP Finals qualification chances. Kyrgios would very likely make Turin in singles & doubles if Wimbledon points counted.
