Carlos
Alcaraz decided not to get a tattoo after winning the silver medal at Paris
2024. The 4-time Grand Slam champion had tattoos made to honor his first titles
at the 2022 US Open, 2023 Wimbledon, and 2024 French Open. The world No. 3 also
has a tattoo in honor of his grandfather ("CCC").
The
21-year-old Spaniard had a great performance in Paris, defeating opponents like
Tommy Paul and Felix Auger-Aliassime on his way to the final. However, he fell
short in the gold medal match against
Novak Djokovic and had to settle for the
Olympic silver.
Alcaraz declines new tattoo
After the
Olympic Games, Alcaraz decided to skip the Canadian Open and delay the start of
his hardcourt swing by a week. This week, he will compete in the Cincinnati
Open, although he will have a couple of days before debuting in the second
round against the winner of Gael Monfils and Alexei Popyrin.
Upon his
arrival in America, Alcaraz was asked if he planned to get a tattoo after
winning the Olympic silver medal: "No, because I didn’t get the
gold!" Alcaraz said, laughing, during media day. "If I could have won
the gold medal, I would have gotten a tattoo," he added.
Alcaraz
also mentioned that he left his silver medal in Murcia, alongside his Wimbledon
and French Open trophies: "It’s at home! It is close to the Wimbledon and
Roland Garros trophies in the living room. It’s over there," he revealed.
The 4-time
Grand Slam champion regretted missing the opportunity to win gold and mentioned
Rafael Nadal as an example, who won gold at the 2008 Beijing Olympics but
couldn’t reach the Olympic final in subsequent attempts.
"Obviously,
nobody knows what’s going to happen in the future, if I’m going to reach the
final again. For example, Rafael Nadal won the gold medal in 2008, and he
couldn’t make the final again in the Olympic Games," he said during the
aforementioned conversation. "I’m probably going to have another chance in
the future, but I’m not sure about it.”
