Grigor Dimitrov has called the comparison between himself and
Roger Federer irrelevant because it's a burden for any player to be compared to him.
Dimitrov was compared to Federer from an early age because his tennis looked very similar to that of the legendary player. Federer was his idol and the influence is obvious but being compared to a legendary player that early created pressure for him to live up to it which he talked about a few times. He thinks it's a lesson for player to reject any comparisons and we've seen young players like Alcaraz rejecting comparisons with former players:
"That should be a lesson for every young player who comes into the game. No one should carry such a burden upon his name, I'll tell you that much. That was, I think one of the most, I would say, irrelevant comparisons in my eyes, in my view and i think in everybody's. And what I am the most happy with that I made a name for myself."
Asked about his 2023 season which has been fairly good so far, Dimitrov admitted to some changes:
"I've been enjoying it and also putting a lot of work, trying to do things a little bit different than I have in the past, trying to play a little bit more, just get out of my comfort zone a little bit and I think it will also push me to be better in every department that I need to improve."
