Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev are the last men standing at the Australian Open, setting the thrilling title clash at Rold Laver Arena on Sunday.
Novak has won four of the previous seven matches against Daniil, and only one in the last four, with the Russian winning their previous encounter at the last year's ATP Finals in straight sets. Daniil scored five commanding victories in Melbourne and toppled Filip Krajinovic to advance into his second Major final, winning 20 consecutive matches and 12 against the rivals from the top-10!
On the other hand, Djokovic had to work much harder to reach the ninth Australian Open title match, overcoming an abdomen injury and playing well against Aslan Karatsev in the semis to extend his perfect record at Melbourne Park after reaching the last four. For Mats Wilander, it is a wide-open title match, with 51-49 in Novak's favor.
"I'm really looking forward to Djokovic against Medvedev. I think they are the world's best players at the moment, especially on the faster hard court like the one in Melbourne. We are not 100% sure how Djokovic is feeling physically, and Medvedev will not go down in that segment, not even after four or five hours.
For me, it's 51-49 in Djokovic's favor, but we will see an exciting battle and extended rallies. Medvedev is the upcoming star that can challenge Djokovic the most, but the Serb is yet to lose a final in Melbourne," Mats Wilander said.
