Former French tennis player Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has weighed in the greatest of all time (GOAT) debate with a decisive statement about Novak Djokovic.
The former World No. 5 faced current World No. 1 Djokovic twenty-three times throughout his career before retiring in May 2022. The Serbian player dominated their head-to-head 17-6, including winning their final clash at the 2019 Australian Open before going on to lift the trophy.
Since then, Djokovic has continued to lead the field on the ATP Tour, winning three out of four Grand Slams in 2023 and equaling Margaret Court's record of 24 major titles in the process. This has led many fans and players alike to shut down the debate around which of the Big Three (Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer) is the GOAT, as the 36-year-old surpassed both of his rivals.

Tsonga predicts future success for Djokovic

Now, Tsonga has added his voice to those calling Djokovic the GOAT, making his opinion very clear: "The GOAT is Djokovic. And I think he can go for 25, 26, 27… Maybe 28 Grand Slam tournaments. You never know," he told Le Republicain Lorrain
Djokovic is currently preparing to compete at the 2023 ATP Finals in Turin, Italy. He will begin his bid to defend the title tomorrow, Sunday, November 12, against Denmark's Holger Rune, who is currently ranked World No. 10 in the ATP Ranking.
They are part of the Green Group, meaning Djokovic will also face World No. 4 Jannik Sinner and World No. 6 Stefanos Tsitsipas in an attempt to advance to the semi-final. The other qualifiers are World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz, third seed Daniil Medvedev, No. 5 Andrey Rublev, and No. 8 Alexander Zverev.
This comes a week after Djokovic won his 40th ATP 1000 title at the Paris Masters, defeating Grigor Dimitrov in the final 6-4, 6-3. Earlier in the season, he also won the Adelaide International 1 and the Cincinnati Open, defeating Alcaraz in the final of the latter.
