Novak Djokovic has decided one of his next moves despite not yet having a coach to take him forward with long-time fitness coach and physio, Marco Panichi the latest to leave his team announcing the news on Instagram.
This comes after Goran Ivanisevic left camp Djokovic in March after Indian Wells with a disappointing loss to Luca Nardi. He then was defeated at the Monte-Carlo Masters by Casper Ruud. He is expected back next week in Rome, but decided to skip Madrid this week.
Ivanisevic was dispensed of after six years and it is unknown as of yet where Djokovic will go. He had Nenad Zimonjic as his main coach temporarily and while hinting this could continue, he also said at the Laureus Sports Awards that he could yet ditch a coach for a while. Being a perennial winner, he can't just hire anybody realistically. He has returned to former fitness coach, Gebhard Phil-Gritsch who he worked with under Marian Vajda which could hint a reunion with his former coach albeit it may just be similar to Zimonjic in being a trustworthy face.
"Grande Marco, what amazing years of collaboration we’ve had. We reached the summit, won titles, broken records. But most of all, I have enjoyed our most “ordinary” days of training in and out of the gym. Endless hours of “carciofini” and laughs that made me feel super motivated to prepare for success. Grazie Romanista (as Goran calls you) for all the energy, effort and time you invested in making me the best possible player and person I can be. Much love ❤️ and I will see you soon in Roma," said Djokovic on Instagram.
