As ever this season, the question that has been there has surrounded
Novak Djokovic and his Grand Slam participation due to his unwillingness to be vaccinated.
Barring the Australian Open, Djokovic has played at both Roland Garros and Wimbledon albeit with the latter being 'unranked' and has meant he has lost ground to Rafael Nadal in the 'GOAT' race and also ranking points.
This will continue with the 21-time Grand Slam champion has withdrawn from the
US Open ahead of the draw which is due to take place on Thursday evening at around 5pm BST/6pm CET which will be as ever in the form of a reveal.
He was still showing on the US Open website and there was hope that he would compete due to the CDC relaxing laws on COVID-19 in the US but this did not come into force in terms of travel at the time leaving Djokovic with a wait to see if he would be successful.
But he has not releasing a statement on social media saying he is now waiting for the next opportunity to play and will remain ready.
"Sadly, I will not be able to travel to NY this time for US Open. Thank you (NoleFam) for your messages of love and support. Good luck to my fellow players! I’ll keep in good shape and positive spirit and wait for an opportunity to compete again. See you soon tennis world," he said.
This leaves Daniil Medvedev and Rafael Nadal as the leading lights at Flushing Meadows with Alexander Zverev the main player to miss out due to injury.
