Novak Djokovic has revealed his plans to "leave the racket aside" for a short while after his win at the 2023 Paris Masters in order to rest ahead of the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin and the Davis Cup Final 8 in Malaga.

The World No. 1 won his seventh Paris Masters title and lifted his 40th ATP Masters 1000 trophy when he defeated Grigor Dimitrov in the final 6-4, 6-3. This served as a positive sign ahead of his last two tournaments of the year - the 2023 ATP Finals and the Davis Cup - which he will participate in later this month.

While the 36-year-old is keen to repeat the success that he has had throughout much of the season to defend his title at the ATP Finals and help Team Serbia to the trophy in Malaga, he revealed that he will first take a short amount of time to rest and recover from Paris.

Djokovic paces himself ahead of big tournaments

"Yeah, I mean, and now it's going to be recovery time definitely next three, four days, to really leave the racket aside and just spend time with the family and recharge.

"And then go to Torino, where every match is going to be like finals of a big tournament, because you play a top-8 player. You know, every match carries a lot of points, carries a lot of importance," he said.

After Djokovic equaled Margaret Court's record for 24 Grand Slam titles at the US Open in September, he took over a month away from the ATP Tour, missing the entire Asian Swing in order to spend some time with his family.

Even with this break, his consistent success throughout the season means that he is very likely to end 2023 as World No. 1. Although there is still a slim chance that Carlos Alcaraz could overtake him, one win at the ATP Finals will solidify Djokovic's place as year-end No. 1, and even Alcaraz has admitted that there is "no chance" of usurping the Serbian player at this stage.
