Tennis analyst Steve Weissman believes that Serbia’s Novak
Djokovic is one of the greatest players to have played on clay after the likes
of Spain’s
Rafael Nadal and former women’s world number one
Chris Evert. The
36-year-old is often regarded as the greatest player in the history of men’s
tennis in the Open era, having won as many as 24 Grand Slam titles.
Three of those major triumphs came while playing on clay at
Roland Garros. Despite that, tennis analyst Weissman believes that Djokovic
remains one of the greatest to have played on the red surface. "The clay
GOATs are Rafa and @ChrissieEvert - but Novak is certainly one of the greatest
after that..." he wrote on his official account on the social media app X—previously
known as Twitter.
Looking further into details, it shows that Djokovic’s
overall record while playing on clay is not bad at all. He has a win percentage of
80 which is extremely impressive. Other than winning three Grand Slams, the
Belgrade-born star also won as many as 11 ATP titles while playing on the red
surface. His most recent triumph on clay came last year in 2023 when he defeated
Norway’s Casper Ruud in the final of the French Open with a score of 7–6(7–1),
6–3, 7–5.
