Up until now, Denis Shapovalov and Vasek Pospisil played all of the matches for Canada and in most of them, they were successful.
In the quarterfinals, the Canadian team met Australia. Aussies were playing without Kyrgios this time and so chances of Canada were even higher.
In the first match, Vasek Pospisil faced John Millman who replaced Kyrgios. Although Pospisil was losing already 3-0 in the first set, he showed his fighting spirit to level the score and decided the set in a tie-break which he won 9-7.
In the second match, we saw only one break point which was also a match point. Pospisil was successful in converting it to win the second set 6-4 and earn the first quarterfinal point for Canada.
In the second match, we saw a great turn of events by Alex De Minaur. He lost the first set 3-6 to
Denis Shapovalov but did not give up and won second 6-3 and third 7-5 to level the scores of the quarterfinal tie.
So doubles again decided who will be the first semifinalist. John Peers alongside Jordan Thompson fought against Denis Shapovalov and Vasek Pospisil. The Canadian duo was unstoppable again as they won the match 6-4 and 6-4 to become the first semifinalists of 2019 Davis Cup finals.
“I’ve been playing really well this week and trying to keep the momentum going, feeling really confident,” Pospisil said. “I’m playing pretty relaxed, which is good – I’m enjoying my time on the court after being injured, which has changed my perspective a bit, and maybe that’s helped me for the last couple of months."
