Known as one of the most enigmatic players on the ATP Tour, German tennis player
Dustin Brown has announced he will be calling it quits at the conclusion of the 2024
Moselle Open.
The 39-year old shifted his focus to doubles in 2021, and has achieved relative success in that discipline. Brown teamed with Argentine player Sebastian Baez at Wimbledon this year, where the duo lost to the top-seeded duo of Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos in the round of 16.
Brown known for his perfect record against Nadal
Although the Celle native often popped up in news feeds for his bold style of play and impressive volleys, Brown announced his arrival on the tennis scene after defeating
Rafael Nadal at the Halle Open in 2014. The former World No.64 would prove his victory was no fluke a year later, defeating Nadal on the grandest stage at the 2015 Wimbledon Championships. Brown would oust the Spaniard in the second round, sending shockwaves around the tennis community due to his shocking upset.
The German star is one of only two players to remain undefeated against the legendary Spaniard after playing him more than once on the tour. He is 2-0 against Nadal in career meetings, joining retired Spanish star Alex Corretja as the only two players to share that particular feat.
Brown teamed up with American Evan King in the doubles event at the Moselle Open. Despite their best attempts, the duo fell to the French pair of Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Albano Olivetti in the round of 16, calling an end to Brown's 22 year career.
