Va-t-on vivre l'histoire ensemble ? Si Nadal retourne tout c'est un des plus grands exploits de l'histoire du sport
Rafael Nadal may still lose fairly comfortably to Novak Djokovic at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games but he is at least putting up some semblance of a fight. This after the Serbian looked likely to romp home in a pretty humiliating loss.
Nadal was 6-1, 4-0 down to Djokovic in what was a pretty incredulous watch for all fans of the Spaniard. It was the kind of viewing that is only best done behind a sofa.
Djokovic spent most of the first set and a half teeing off against Nadal and having that extra yard of pace and zip that shows the levels between the pair. For reference, they have not met since 2022 Roland Garros where Nadal defeated Djokovic.
Since then, Djokovic has continued his Grand Slam tear and his route at the top of the sport. While Nadal is heading towards retirement. It is not confirmed when that will be but it is coming at some point.
But the Serbian showed why he has competed at the top level of the sport throughout the years since while Nadal has not and has been on the sidelines with injury. For many this time is more of a dream of two players that have played 60 meetings in years gone by. A terrifying number and one that it looks like for all the will in the world, Djokovic will add to.
It will also represent daylight in their rivalry with Djokovic only leading by one currently. But Nadal during the tie made it interesting. He cut the gap from 4-0 down to 4-4 albeit as of time of writing, Djokovic has had break points so it is now up to Nadal to fight one more time in order to attempt to go towards the second set. The sporting world watches on.
