Although retired, Spanish tennis legend Rafael Nadal has added to his already impressive wealth after selling close to half of his shares at his academy.

The 22-time Grand Slam champion played his last professional match at the 2024 Davis Cup, retiring in front of his friends and family. However, Nadal has remained active in the tennis scene, as he runs his Rafael Nadal Academy, with the main base located in his home of Manacor, Mallorca.

Nadal boosts his fortune with mega-deal

The former World No.1 has several tennis centers worldwide under the Rafael Nadal Academy name, with locations ranging from Mallorca, Greece, Hong Kong to Kuwait, and Mexico. He is also set to open another in Saudi Arabia as part of his role as Saudi tennis ambassador.

The inaugural Rafa Nadal Academy was opened in Manacor in 2016, with several notable tennis players having trained at the location including former World No.2 Casper Ruud and Spanish tennis player Jaume Munar. Additionally, WTA great Venus Williams and Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime have dropped in for training.

In a report by La Voz de Ibiza, it was stated that Nadal has now sold 44.9 per cent of his stake in the academy for just under £79m (€95m) to private investment firm GPF Capital. As part of the deal, Nadal’s holding company Aspemir made a staggering profit of £70m (€85m). However, Nadal remains the main owner of his Manacor academy.
