Rafael Nadal played his best match in Turin to defeat
Casper Ruud 7-5 7-5 avoiding going winless at the
ATP Finals.
Rafael Nadal's longest losing streak will remain at four with the Spaniard winning the match against Ruud avoiding setting a new negative record in that record. It was the best match Nadal played by far this week in Turin and probably the best he played in a very long time.
The determination to win was very visible in Nadal's play and it was certainly higher than that of Ruud who didn't show much in this one. Ruud had a pretty good chance to snatch the first set when he forced break points late in the match but Nadal was able to hold firm.
The Spaniard then turned it up a notch taking the opening set 7-5 behind fourteen winners. Ruud made too many mistakes down the stretch. The second set was quite similar as Nadal looked to keep points brief playing very aggressive tennis.
He didn't have many chances to close it out but it came late in the match and he took it with a couple of brilliant winners. He had 23 of them in the second set and 37 overall. He also had 16 aces which was quite something to see.
