Former world number one
Novak Djokovic has reportedly been
spotted outside the hospital in his native country. The 37-year-old is often
regarded as the greatest player in the history of men’s tennis in the singles
category in the Open era, having won as many as 24 Grand Slam titles.
Djokovic, who has had a mixed season according to his high
standards, has been in the news recently after he decided to withdraw from the
upcoming
ATP Finals. He announced the decision few days back in a post on his official
account on the social media platform Instagram where he stated that he would
not take part in the upcoming mega-event because of a fitness concern. "I
was really looking forward to being there, but due to ongoing injury, I won't
be playing next week," he wrote. “Apologies to those who were planning to
see me. I wish all the players a great tournament. See you soon!"
As per the latest report from Serbian outlet Sport, also
quoted by English media outlet Daily Express, Djokovic was spotted outside a
hospital in his home country with his wife and his father. It is not clear whether
he was there to get himself treated for the injury or whether he was there to
have his father checkup who recently fell while feeding birds.
Djokovic’s decision to withdraw from the upcoming mega-event
surprised quite a few people as he would have been defending his title this
year. The Belgrade-born star lifted the ATP Finals title last year after
beating reigning world number one Sinner in the final in straight sets with a
score of 6-3, 6-3. The last major event in the men’s tennis calendar is set to
begin on Sunday in Turin, Italy, where the top eight players will
participate to showcase their talent and secure the ultimate prize.
