Roger Federer and
Jannik Sinner and the leaders of the pack when we talk about the youngest and oldest competitors on the year-end top-100 ATP ranking list.
At 39, Federer is still among the players to beat thanks to his 2019 points, finishing the season inside the top-5. The Swiss played only one tournament in 2020, reaching the Australian Open semi-final and missing the rest of the season after two knee surgeries in February and May. Turning 40 next August, Federer is still eager to chase notable titles and fight against the world's leading players, training hard in Dubai and hoping to get ready for the Australian Open in February.
Federer is the oldest year-end top-100 player for the first time in a career (that honor was reserved for Ivo Karlovic in the previous years), topping the standings ahead of his coeval
Feliciano Lopez, who is a month younger than the Swiss. Philipp Kohlschreiber, Fernando Verdasco and Gilles Simon complete the top-5 list of the oldest competitors in the elite top-100, all ranked way below Roger.
On the other side, Jannik Sinner is the only teenager in the year-end top-100 ranking, completing the season in the top-40 following the Roland Garros quarter-final and the first ATP crown in Sofia at the end of the year.
Felix Auger-Aliassime is second, failing to crack the year-end top-20 charts by one position like in 2019 but still having a nice season.
Miomir Kecmanovic, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and
Corentin Moutet, all born in 1999, are the next players on the list, standing like the youngsters to beat together with Denis Shapovalov, Alex de Minaur and Casper Ruud, who failed to secure their place in the charts.
