Roger Federer is now 44th in the
ATP rankings, his lowest ranking since 12th June 2000 and it comes after he continues to rehab knee injuries.
He dropped 18 places from 26th in the world as his 500 rankings points from winning the 2019 Miami Open dropped from his tally. The Swiss was just 18 years old when he last placed lower than he is following the latest ATP rankings update.
To put that into perspective, world number 12 Jannik Sinner and
newly-crowned Miami Masters champion Carlos Alcaraz were not yet born
when Federer was ranked 54th in the world on 5th June 2000. At that point, Federer did not have a single one of his now 103 career ATP titles to his name, the first of those coming in February 2001 when the Swiss was aged 19 and ranked 27th.
Meanwhile, Federer recently posted an update to his Instagram showing fans a glimpse of a practice session as he continues his push to return to the tour. While the 20-time Slam champion doubts he will be back on the court in
time for this year’s Wimbledon, fans hope he will at least be fit for
his target of the Laver Cup, taking place in London this September.
