After a lot of thinking, Roger Federer decided to compete on clay this year, entering two events in Geneva and Paris and hoping for similar results he had two years ago.
This year's grass swing will include only two pre-Wimbledon weeks, and Roger had to think twice before signing to play on the slowest surface, eager to play his best tennis in Halle and Wimbledon. Roger's former Davis Cup teammate and the Swiss no. 1 Marc Rosset believes that the 20-time Major winner made a good decision, saying that he needs Roland Garros matches to get ready for Wimbledon.
Federer had to stay away from the court for 13 months following the last year's Australian Open, undergoing two knee surgeries and returning to the practice court in October. Working hard on his game, the Swiss made a return last month in Doha, winning one match and taking more rest ahead of the clay swing that he kicks off in the third week of May at home in Geneva.
"Roger Federer has taken a good decision to play on clay. If you want to beat Djokovic, Nadal or Tsitsipas at Wimbledon, first you must play the French Open. I am looking forward to meeting him in Geneva," Marc Rosset said.
