The 2009 Roland Garros champion Roger Federer will compete at Roland Garros this year, adding the season's second Major to his clay swing after previously signing to play at home in Geneva.
Geneva and Paris will be Roger's only ATP tournaments on clay this spring, withdrawing from Madrid and Rome and focusing on these two events ahead of the grass swing that will be shorter than usual this year. Roger had to skip all the last year's action after the Australian Open, struggling with a knee injury and undergoing surgeries in February and May.
In October, the 20-time Major champion hit the practice court and worked hard on his game in the upcoming months, eager to compete again and reach his best ahead of Wimbledon.
Federer made a long-awaited return in Doha in March after skipping the Australian Open, beating Daniel Evans and wasting a match point against Nikoloz Basilashvili in the quarters. Skipping Dubai and Miami, Federer took some time to figure out his next steps and the clay swing, opting for Geneva and Paris and hoping to build form ahead of the All England Club.
Federer lost three consecutive Roland Garros finals to Rafael Nadal before heading all the way in 2009 to complete a Career Grand Slam. Federer skipped Roland Garros in 2016, 2017 and 2018, returning to Paris two years ago and losing in the semis to Nadal in straight sets.
