After skipping the slowest surface for a couple of years,
Roger Federer returned to clay in 2019 and reached the Roland Garros semi-final, losing it to Rafael Nadal in straight sets.
Two years later, the Swiss is ready to embrace clay again in May and June, preparing for a couple of tournaments ahead of his beloved grass swing in Halle and Wimbledon.
The problem is, the Roland Garros organizers had to push the start of the event for one week, reducing the pre-Wimbledon swing to two weeks and making life harder for those who are waiting for the fastest surface.
At the moment, it is not clear whether Roger will compete in Paris or not, needing matches ahead of Wimbledon but never wanting to jeopardize his All England Club campaign by staying on clay for too long. Roger's former Davis Cup teammate Marc Rosset urges his compatriot to compete at Roland Garros despite the changed calendar, saying it would be great for him to reach the semi-final and gain momentum.
"I don't see why Roger would not play at Roland Garros. He is on the physical preparation with Pierre Paganini. But afterward, you have to go to the court and play matches. If he reaches the semi-final, it would be the best preparation for Wimbledon," said Marc Rosset.
