Playing only one tournament since the last year's Australian Open, the 20-time Major champion Roger Federer returns to action next week at the home ATP 250 event in Geneva.
Struggling with a knee injury, Roger experienced two surgeries in February and May last year, returning to the practice court in October and embracing professional matches this March in Doha. Federer defeated Daniel Evans in the second round before wasting a match point against Nikoloz Basilashvili in a thriller.
Deciding to take more rest, Federer skipped Miami, Monte Carlo, Madrid and Rome, staying on the practice court and preparing for Geneva, Paris, Halle and London in the upcoming weeks.
Roger's former teammate and the doubles partner Marc Rosset believes that Federer will seek the title next week, as he always gives his best at the home events. Roger's first and only ATP title on clay in Switzerland came in Gstaad 2004, right after he defended the Wimbledon crown.
"There will be competition, but Roger has a great attachment to his country. He does not come to make up the number. When he plays in Switzerland, he wants to win," Marc Rosset said.
