French Open finalist Karolina Muchova appeared in a new photoshoot for Vogue magazine.
The World No. 18 showcased a new facet, posing in a vintage photoshoot for Vogue CZ in the Czech Republic. Muchova has been a sensation this season after reaching her first Grand Slam final at the 2023 French Open, where she fell to the World No. 1, Iga Swiatek.
The 26-year-old tennis player defeated players like Maria Sakkari, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, and Aryna Sabalenka on her way to the final, which ended in defeat against Swiatek.
Vogue published a photoshoot of Muchova, portraying iconic women from the past through various vintage outfits and accessories from brands like Swarovski, Dior, and YSL.
The photo session was part of the promotion for the 'Tennis Garden by Radka Leitmeritz' exhibition, currently showcased at the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague, celebrating the beauty and diversity of women's tennis in the context of a larger project called 'Court Supremes'.
The photoshoot were shared on the official WTA Instagram account:
In the interview, Muchova discussed the progress of women's tennis and shared her experience of playing in the French Open final:
“For a long time, men's tennis was considered more attractive, but lately it seems to me that women's tennis has become more fun, more unpredictable. And the stadiums are already starting to fill up. For example, at the Roland Garros final, it was an amazing experience when the atmosphere simply touches you,” Muchova said.
After the success she achieved this year in clay-court tournaments (with 10 wins and three losses), Muchova didn’t compete in grass-court tournaments before participating in Wimbledon as the 16th seed, where she lost in the first round to Jule Niemeier.
This week, she returned to the path of victory in the first round of the Varsovia Open, defeating Aliaksandra Sasnovich with scores of 4-6, 7-6, 6-3. However, she surprisingly exited the tournament after losing to world No. 174 Rebecca Sramkova in three sets.
