Ruud books semi-final against Zverev with win over Rune

Just like last year in the quarter-final of Roland Garros (French Open), we saw Casper Ruud beating Holger Rune in four sets 6-1 6-2 3-6 6-3 to book the semi-final.

This match kind of didn't live up to the hype even though it was a very good match. There was much more drama in last year's one and it was a more competitive match. This one largely looked like a Casper Ruud show as the Danish player really didn't play that well to start. He lost the opening set by not looking like himself at all.

Ruud did play well but he did very little in forcing Rune to commit five double faults in the opening set. He looked tired and sluggish and just never found a very good footing. The second set didn't look any better as Ruud once again cruised rather comfortably 6-3. The 3rd set saw Ruud play a bit nervous for some reason, especially after Rune took an early break which he held despite some heavy pressure from the Norwegian, especially in the latter part of the set.

The final set once again didn't live up to the hype as we kind of expected a close one but Ruud snatched an early break and then did well enough to keep it. Their Rome Open clash recently was pretty fiery but this one just lacked the juice from Rune. He played better as the match went on but it wasn't the best he can do. Ruud did well, typically chose his spots well, didn't risk too much and posted a rather solid 32 winner and 29 unforced errors line.

Rune was more up and done as he had 48 winners but also 47 unforced errors which proved a bit too much. Just a rocky performance that wasn't enough. Somewhat predictable as he looked tired even against Cerundolo.
