The German
made a remark that Shriver criticized as "insensitive" after his
victory in the quarterfinals of Roland Garros. The 21-time WTA champion and
International Tennis Hall of Fame member did not approve of Zverev's words.
'Sascha'
defeated Argentina's Tomas Etcheverry in four sets and secured a spot in the
tournament's semifinals for the third consecutive season, becoming the first
unseeded player to reach that stage since Marco Cecchinato in 2018.
Shriver responded to
Zverev's comments on Twitter, calling him an "Anti Role Model."
Stupid, insensitive, pathetic, tone deaf, idiotic, impulsive, ignorant, and disgusting thing to say. The Anti Role Model is SZ.
Despite the controversy,
Zverev will continue to compete in the semifinals, aiming to reach his first
final at Roland Garros. His opponent will be Casper Ruud, who was a finalist in
2022.
