Jannik
Sinner made history by arriving at the Centre Court of
Wimbledon with a
personalized Gucci bag that was not white.
The Italian
player began his participation in the third Grand Slam of the year with a
commanding victory over the young Argentine, Juan Manuel Cerundolo, conceding
only six games and winning 6-2, 6-2, 6-2.
Sinner
demonstrated his clear favoritism and was relentless in his serve, hitting 69%
of first serves in, winning 80% of those points, and 89% on his second serves,
all while not facing any break points.
With his
debut on the Center Court, there was a situation that caught attention. The
world No. 8 appeared on the court with a Gucci bag, as he is an ambassador for
the brand. This caught attention because historically, the rules have required
white attire during matches at Wimbledon.
“Quite a
statement indeed. First time a high-end luxury luggage piece has been brought
on court. The perfect bag had to be big enough to hold all the things I need
with me on court and easy to carry at the same time,” said Sinner to GQ.
“For sure
this will create a conversation. Bringing sport and luxury fashion together in
this way is something that's never been done before and I feel extremely proud
to be a part of it. I hope people will love it as much as I do,” he added.
“Wimbledon
is the most historic and prestigious tournament in tennis. The strict dress
code is rooted in tradition, respect for the sport's history and a desire to
maintain formality.'It also creates a very unique atmosphere which makes
Wimbledon really special, in my opinion,” he concluded.
Sinner will
play in the second round against another Argentine, but this time with more
experience, as he will face the former world No. 8, Diego Schwartzman. The two
players have met three times before, with Sinner securing convincing victories
in all of their previous encounters.
