Sergiy Stakhovsky showed the messages of support he received from
Novak Djokovic when the Russian invasion started.
The Ukrainian tennis player accompanies his family to Hungary after which he return to Kyiv and enlisted in the army to defend his homeland. In a talk with reporters, he revealed that Djokovic sent his messages of support enquiring if there is anything he could do to help. He publicly thanked Djokovic for his messages on Instagram.
The Serbian reached out to Stakhosky asking how he was doing and where he was. He then offered to send support in any way asking for information on how it would be best to do so.
It's a very warm gesture from Djokovic that deserves to be applauded considering that other top names in the sport like Nadal, Federer, Tsitsipas have yet to publicly speak on the matter. It's never been the case that athletes are involved in politics but the lack of reaction is disheartening considering the gravity of the situation and the number of civilians that have been harmed.
