For the first time since March 2019, Roger Federer will drop out from the top-5 next week following Stefanos Tsitsipas' Rotterdam quarter-final victory over Karen Khachanov.
The Greek scored a hard-fought 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 triumph over the Russian in two hours and 42 minutes and secured enough points to push Federer out from the elite group and return there for the first time in four months. Federer hasn't played since the last year's Australian Open, keeping his 2019 points due to the coronavirus pandemic and maintaining a high ranking position ahead of his next week's Doha return.
Roger is spending the 859th week in the top-5, entering there for the first time in January 2003 and staying competitive for almost two decades.
The Swiss star embraced a thrilling streak of consecutive top-5 weeks between February 2003 and August 2013, struggling a bit in the upcoming months and returning to his best in 2014, 2015 and 2016 before that nasty knee injury.
After Miami 2017, Roger returned to the exclusive group and has spent almost every week in it. That will all chance on Monday, with Federer entering the Doha draw as world no. 6 and the 2nd seed behind Dominic Thiem.
