World number 12
Stefanos Tsitsipas has once again stated his
desire to do well at the Olympics. The 2024 edition of the mega-event will be held from July 26 to August 09 in the capital city of France, Paris. Thousands of players from different countries will participate in different sports to
claim glory for their respective nations.
Tsitsipas was recently quoted in a report where he once
again expressed his desire to do well at the Olympics. The current world number 12 revealed that it is his childhood dream to do well at the Olympics largely because it originated from his land of birth.
"Greece and the (Olympic) Games for sure fit like bread
and butter together,” he said. “It is something that has been a dream of mine
since I started playing tennis. Since I first picked up a tennis racket, I
always wanted to be an athlete that gets to participate in something like that.
And of course, to be aiming for a medal is something extraordinary. So my dream
keeps on evolving, keeps on existing, and my path towards that is slowly
building up. For me the best redemption is walking away from the Games with a
medal."
Tsitsipas previously participated in the Summer Olympics in the 2020 edition, where in the singles category, he was knocked out after losing in the third round to France’s Ugo Humbert of France with a score of 2-6, 7-6, 6-2. He also participated in the mixed doubles category with Maria Sakkari. Still, the pair lost in the quarterfinal to the pair of Australia’s Ashleigh Barty and John Peers with a score of 6-4, 4-6, 10-6.
The Athens-born star will be hoping his form improves for the mega-event after going through a rather rough patch. He recently participated in Wimbledon, where he was knocked out of the competition after losing in the
second round to Finland’s Emil Ruusuvuori with a score of 7-6, 7-6, 3-6,
6-3.
