Stefanos Tsitsipas played a great final against Cameron Norrie and won the Lyon Open 2021.
It was another great display from the Greek superstar who defeated Cameron Norrie 6-3 6-3 in the final. It is the 2nd title for Tsitsipas in 2021 with both coming on clay. After playing solid tennis all week long Tsitsipas reached the final against Cameron Norrie. The Brit was not a great clay player before but his level on the surface in 2021 has been extraordinary.
The start of the match featured three consecutive break point in the first game for Norrie but Stefanos saved them. Tsitsipas then had a couple of break points as well but the score remained 1-1. As time went on Tsitsipas played better and better and he soon found ways to overpower Norrie in rallies. At 4-3 to him, he carved out a break point and convert it to take the opening set 6-3.
Tsitispas played great and served well hitting 6 aces to only one double fault. He did not face a break point since the first game and that proved crucial. The 2nd set was another one where both players played well. Norrie served great and he was more dominant on his serve than Tsitsipas. However, the Brit could not keep it up and towards the end of the set, his play started to dip.
At 3-3, Tsitsipas broke Norrie to take a 5-3 lead and finished it off with another break to take the match 6-3. Norrie simply lacked the quality in key moments to overcome Tsitsipas who was able to win his 2nd title in 2021. Tsitsipas will solidify himself as the sole ATP Race after this most recent title run.
