In the first match John Isner won over Alexander Zverev 6-7, 6-4 and 10-1 and gave the Team World hope to turn the score around during the second game day. Isner commented after his win:
“Maybe we’re turning the tables just a little bit. Team World is in this and we’re here to win, so let’s get it going!”
But in the next match, Roger Federer did not hesitate as he turned the match against Nick Kyrgios and put the Team Europe back in the lead by 2 points. Federer did not forget to thank the home crowd.
“I was hoping it was going to be like this and they didn’t disappoint me,” said Federer afterwards. “Thank you Geneva.”
Rafael Nadal increased the lead of the Team Europe to 4 points against Milos Raonic when he won 6-3 and 7-6 in the only two-set match of the day. Raonic had a lot of chances to beat Nadal, especially in the first set, when he didn't convert any of the 8 break balls. After the match Nadal said:
“I feel very luck in the first set. An unlucky set for him, I think he deserved it for sure. Later in the match I started to play better with a higher percentage on the serve and start moving myself a little bit better. I think in the end I played a very good tiebreak with some good shots, so very happy to help Team Europe be 7-3 – it’s great news for us.”
Nadal stood on the court also in the last match. In doubles Nadal & Tsitsipas played against Kyrgios & Sock. The pair who played for Team World needed to score points as their team was losing already 7-3, and they managed to do so after winning 6-4, 3-6 and 10-6.
