Despite the 2025 season still having more to offer, Frances Tiafoe will not have the chance to gain anything from it as he announces the end to his year while also saying farewell to his whole team.
It has been an inconsistent year for the American, who has failed to make the mark he would have hoped for coming into 2025. Injuries have plagued recent times as his form has waned from impressive to lacklustre. For him to kick on in the sport, Tiafoe believes that something needs to change, which has led him to disposing of his whole team, announcing it on an Instagram post intertwining with him confirming that his 2025 campaign has culminated.
"2025 season has come to an end early this year for the kid. It wasn’t the season I hoped for but lots of lessons learned on and off court," Tiafoe wrote on Instagram. I want to give a huge S/O to my team. I’ve been with these guys for several years. We’ve shared some incredible moments that I’ll remember forever. That being said I’ve decided it’s time for a change. I truly appreciate the love..energy…passion and brotherhood. It’s been a great ride and only bigger and better things for all of us ahead. Excited for what’s ahead for me and ready to put the work in. Thanks for all the love and support thru it all. The best is yet to come."
David Witt, Tiafoe's coach, had been working alongside him since July 2024, overseeing his second US Open semi-final and maiden Masters 1000 final in Cincinnati. Jordi Arconada has also departed, with him previously working with Tiafoe for five years. It will be interesting who the American will replace them with. The statement being posted in mid-October may reveal that he wants time to bond with new faces in his camp as he looks to march into 2026.

Tiafoe's 2025 season

The 27-year-old began his 2025 in the same fashion as how he ended his 2024: losing to Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. The tall Frenchman halted his progress in Brisbane ahead of the first Grand Slam of the year in Melbourne. Recent Shanghai Masters finalist Arthur Rinderknech was edged in five sets before Tiafoe was on the wrong end of a drawn-out match, losing to Fabian Marozsan.
Until April, Tiafoe would lose his second match in every event he featured in. This included Masters 1000 events in Indian Wells and Miami. He broke that duct by reaching the final of the US Men's Clay Court Championships, succumbing to a straight sets defeat to fellow countryman Jenson Brooksby.
A disappointing clay swing was ended with a brilliant quarter-final run at Roland Garros, smashing his once-best result of a third-round appearance back in 2023. He would go on to lose 3-1 to Lorenzo Musetti. His grass season was marked by early round defeats at Queens and Wimbledon, losing to British players Dan Evans and Cameron Norrie.
He was eager to return home and compete in the North American hardcourt swing, first travelling to Washington where he was unable to get a result against Ben Shelton in the quarter-finals. He made it to back-to-back round of 16 stages in Toronto and Cincinnati, coming up short against Aussi number one Alex de Minaur and Hoger Rune, where he retired due to injury. His return to Flushing Meadows brough a shed load of expectation, having reached the semi-final stage last year. He was nowhere near to replicating that run, falling to qualifier Jan-Lennard Struff in three sets.
He represented his country in the Davis Cup against Czechia, losing both singles ties before pulling out of the Laver Cup. Early defeats in Tokyo and Shanghai marked the end of the road in 2025 for Tiafoe.
