Dominic Thiem and Alexander Zverev will meet on Friday in the second semifinal matchup at the 2020 Australian Open.
Playing a Grand Slam final will be a huge success for both Thiem and Zverev in Melbourne. While the Austrian played in the final already twice in 2018, 2019 at Roland Garros. It is the first semifinal experience for the German who can also reach his first final at the Grand Slam.
Both players experienced big achievements during their still short careers but none of them managed to win a Grand Slam title. After
Dominic Thiem defeated Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinal, both players have a chance to get a step closer to the trophy.
World no. 5 and no. 7 met already 8 times on the tour. However, the Austrian was much more successful in the H2H matches than his opponent. Thiem leads the statistic 6-2 and he will be looking to add another victory also in Melbourne. On the other hand, Zverev would want to follow-up on a good form when
he lost a set only to Wawrinka in Australia.
Zverev also spoke about his promise when
he said that if he wins the 2020 Australian Open, he will donate all of his money to the bushfire relief. Now, when he is just 2 steps away he gets asked more and more about if he will really donate the money. On the recent press conference, Sascha said:
"A$4 million is a lot of money for me. I mean, I am not Roger or LeBron James. This is still big. But, at the same time, I know there are people in this beautiful country who lost their homes and they actually need the money. They actually depend on it, building up their homes again, building up nature. So I think there is a much better use for those people that need money than for me right now
."
