Dominic Thiem looked very good in his return to tennis defeating Marco Giron at the Madrid Open.
It was a very good return to tennis for Dominic Thiem at the Madrid Open as he defeated Marco Giron in straight sets. The American is not a great clay player but as a strong server, Madrid is one of the rare clay courts where he can do some damage. Thiem completely neutralized his game and serve, winning the opening set 6-1.
He dropped only 4 points on his own serve while Giron struggled immensely on his own serve hitting only 47% of his first serve. The American played much better in the 2nd set but it was still not enough as Thiem flew around the court. It really looked like he missed playing tennis and he was glad to return on his favourite surface.
Once again he was superb on his own serve rarely dropping points and not allowing a single breakpoint. Giron faced six of them and saved four but those two that Thiem used were costly. All in all, it was a very good return to tennis for Thiem. It took only 59 minutes and the end result was 6-1 6-3.
