Thiem wins the title at the Vienna Open after turning match against Schwartzman

Dominic Thiem won the title in his home country at the Vienna Open after he defeated Diego Schwartzman in the final.

It was not a smooth sail for Thiem in Vienna. He had a difficult challenge already in the first round, facing Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Then he outplayed Verdasco in three sets, followed by a withdrawal of Carreno-Busta.

Thiem fought in the semifinals again as he faced third-seeded Matteo Berrettini. His opponent in the final was Diego Schwartzman who defeated Khachanov and Monfils in Austria.

And it was Schwartzman who started the match better. He won the first set 6-3 and had a break point in the second when he was leading 3-2 AD-40. But Thiem saved this break point to convert break points on the opponent's serve and level the score.

In the third set, supported by the home crowd, Thiem showed he was the better player in the final as he managed to take the opponent's serve twice. He won his 5th title this season, 2nd in his home country after triumphing in Kitzbuhel.
