Tennis stars have to spend most of the year waiting to be drug tested as part of anti-doping protocol and even during the off-season this continues with the authorities needing to know whereabouts even when players are away on holiday. This has in turn tripped people up but also in this case brought some hilarity as
Damir Dzumhur was called for testing right in the middle of a podcast.
Dzumhur who resides in Belgrade and represents Bosnia and Herzegovina saw his season come to an end in early November with a last 16 loss at the Athens ATP tournament which was held and ran by Novak Djokovic's family. But while the season has wound down, the testers will be on more red alert given that many aren't training at least for the moment ahead of the
Australian Open.
But as the three-time ATP champion was speaking with host Nebojsa Viskovic on a podcast called
Wish and Go, they knocked on his door. Since players can face sanctions e.g the likes of Jenson Brooksby for missing doping controls, the Bosnian player had to dart from the podcast and he went home to provide a sample.
What makes it even wilder is that they were discussing anti-doping measures actually on the show prior to Dzumhur getting the phone call to be tested.
"Crazy story. I was going live at ©wishandgoshow podcast when I got call from antidoping that they are at my place so I had to head back home and unfortunately finish show with @nebojsaviskovic earlier than expected but it was live drama and and the craziest thing about it is that we were talking about antidoping just before that so we thought it was a joke but it was not. Sorry about it because we had such a good talk, but we ll do it again very soon," he wrote on his Instagram story.
His best results of the 2025 season were semi-finals in Bucharest and Umag, he also enjoyed some success on the Challenger Tour finishing as runner-up in Cap Cana. Ranking wise he finished the year as World No.65.
