There have been a lot of legendary matches between
Rafael Nadal and
Novak Djokovic, but none as exhausting as their meeting at the 2012
Australian Open final.
Both men were striving to add another Major title to their trophy cabinet, with Nadal having reached his fourth consecutive Grand Slam final.
In a match that surpassed all expectations and pushed each man to his limit, Djokovic emerged victorious in a 5-7 6-4 6-2 6-7(5) 7-5 marathon. This epic encounter lasted five hours and 53 minutes, with both men completely exhausted at its conclusion.
Furthermore, it set a new record as the longest men's Grand Slam final, eclipsing the previous record of four hours and 54 minutes set by Mats Wilander and Ivan Lendl at the 1988 US Open.
