It was a short day at the office for
Frances Tiafoe on Wednesday, as the American brushed past compatriot
Mackenzie McDonald to reach the quarterfinals at the
Dallas Open.
The second seed needed less than an hour to secure his path to the final 8, scoring a 6-1 6-3 victory over McDonald. Tiafoe was exceptional on serve, winning 85% of points behind his first serve. This allowed him to save the sole break point faced, while he broke his opponent on four occasions.
Tiafoe also took advantage of his opponent's second serve, winning 11 of 18 points. McDonald lacked the firepower needed to really trouble the US Open semifinalist, who hit 15 winners to only 5 unforced errors. The match was over soon after it begun, with Tiafoe in complete control from start to finish.
The newly-minted World No.14 will face compatriot J.J Wolf in the quarterfinals, with both men never having faced each other on the ATP main-draw circuit.
