In 2020, the
ATP Cup proved to be a great event and we are going to see it again in 2021, however, some of the top names won't be seen at the tournament.
While some players have decided to skip the tournament, some didn't qualify for the 2021 ATP Cup as they didn't have sufficient ranking to play for their country.
5. Nick Kyrgios
While the hot-headed Aussie can occasionally act in a way which not many tennis fans like, it needs to be said that he's one of the biggest tennis entertainers on the ATP Tour.
Alongside Alex De Minaur,
Nick Kyrgios dragged Australia to the semifinals of the inaugural 2020 ATP Cup. In 2021, Kyrgios won't be part of the Australian team as that will see Alex De Minaur, John Millman, John Peers, and Luke Saville fight for their country.
4. Felix Auger-Aliassime
Felix Auger-Aliassime will experience a similar situation like Nick Kyrgios. His country qualified for the 2021 ATP Cup but there are 2 singles players that out-ranked him as the young Canadian is the third-highest ranked player of his country.
In 2020, Auger-Aliassime was part of the Canadian team that qualified for the quarterfinals in Australia, however, this year it will be Milos Raonic who will replace his younger colleague.
3. Grigor Dimitrov
The 29-years-old Bulgarian was showing incredible performances on the courts in Australia at the 2020 ATP Cup. Moreover, he motivated his much lower-ranked countrymen to show similar performances as Bulgaria led the Group C after first 2 meetings with Great Britain and Moldova.
However,
Grigor Dimitrov failed to make the one last step with Bulgaria and they finished 3rd in the group and didn't advance to the quarterfinals. In 2021, we won't see Bulgaria competing at the ATP Cup.
2. Stan Wawrinka
Switzerland wasn't part of the inaugural ATP Cup, and it will be no different in 2021.
Stan Wawrinka will therefore focus on the Australian Open and he will miss this great event. However, his absence is connected to the player, which many would love to see at the ATP Cup.
1. Roger Federer
The Swiss Maestro played only one tournament in 2020, and it was not the ATP Cup. In 2021, he should have returned in great shape in Australia, however, he has decided to skip the Australian Open and therefore also the ATP Cup.
For many tennis fans, it's a pity not to see Switzerland compete at the ATP Cup.
Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka would definitely form a great team which will be able to reach to the highest places.
