Stefanos Tsitsipas has been in top form on the red dirt but he knows replicating that form in Paris will be a very tough thing to do.
Not many players had a better season than Stefanos Tsisipas overall who is currently leading the ATP Race to Turin. The Frenchman took a wild card entry into the
Lyon Open despite playing a lot of matches already. On that he said:
“I don’t feel exhausted, and I wanted to come to Lyon to test myself this week. It’s another opportunity to show how far I can go and play more matches on clay.”
For Tsitsipas it's all about reaching a level of consistency he still feels he lacks, at least compared to other players:
“I still feel far from being consistent, compared to other players. I have been quite consistent, but there is a fine gap that I can close. I am always trying to reach a level of perfection, which I have yet to reach yet."
Tsitsipas is one of those players that benefited from constant play compared to last season which was suspended for a very long time. He admitted to as much saying:
“I definitely feel better physically than I did last year. I have developed routines and habits in order to improve my consistency and ensure that I am mentally there in every single match that I play.”
He was also asked about his form heading into the Roland Garros. He explained that many players are playing great but some of that will not translate to Paris. He said his focus is entirely on the Roland Garros:
“I feel [that] I’m in a position I’ve never been in before, so it’s exciting. I want to try and replicate my form, but I know it’s two weeks of hell. It’s difficult, but I want to stay focused on my goal.”
Tsitsipas seems like the biggest threat to Nadal and Djokovic at the moment and he will be a dangerous opponent in Paris. Do you think he can win it? Tell us below.
