Ugo Humbert overcame a close-knit battle against Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Round of 16 at the ATP Rolex Shanghai Masters, winning the match 6-4, 3-6, 7-5.
The World No. 34 came back from a set down against Botic van de Zandschulp in his opening round at the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena. Meanwhile, Tsitsipas had moved past Rinky Hijikata in straight sets.
The Round of 32 match got off to a good start for the French player, as he broke the World No. 6 in his very first service game. He then held his serve before Tsitsipas got his first game on the board with a tense hold.

A battle of the comebacks

Both players then held their serves for a while until Humbert found himself serving for the set. Tsitsipas appeared to be making a comeback in this crucial game as he built up two break points but an ace from Humbert brought it to a deuce, from where he was able to get ahead and secure the opening set.
However, Tsitsipas was not done fighting back yet, achieving two break points on Humbert's second service game of the second set. The Greek player then secured the break after an unforced error from his opponent. He went on to maintain this level throughout the second set and won it 6-3 to force a decider.
The match then began to swing back in Humbert's favor as he repeated his first-set achievement of breaking Tsitsipas in his first service game. The Frenchman then amassed a 3-0 lead before Tsitsipas managed to hold his serve.
Tsitsipas then broke back to put the set back on serve, but this turned out to be short-lived as Humbert found himself with break and match point at 6-5. The 25-year-old held his nerve and ultimately clinched the match.
He will face J.J. Wolf in the Round of 16 at the Shanghai Masters.
