Iga Swiatek was left confused about whether she was doing an interview or speech after winning the 2023 China Open in Beijing on Sunday.
Swiatek saw off Liudmila Samsonova in a dominant 6-2, 6-2 win to seal her first WTA 1000 title of the season and gave her congratulations to the Russian before getting confused.
Iga: “I want to congratulate Liudmila. You’re a great person & that’s the most important thing… can I continue?”
“Sure”
Iga: “I don’t know if this is an interview or speech”
“Uh. It’s both actually… shall we?”
She also thanked her team after the win with some criticism coming recently of her psychologist, Daria Abramowicz for using her phone and for members of her team not showing emotion.
“Thank you to my team. We all know how hard it is sometimes. I’m really happy I have your support no matter what. I don’t know what I would do without the people around me. I’m pretty grateful," she said.
