Nick Kygios is heading home to Canberra after withdrawing from the
Australian Open but he'll probably be pursued by Victoria police for breaking the law.
On Sunday, Kyrgios was spotted riding an e-scooter through the streets of Melbourne without a helmet and with a passenger. Both of these things are illegal in Victoria and he'll probably have to explain himself to the police after the video of him breaking the law surfaced. Victoria police commissioner responded to a question from the media stating:
“It’s been reported to us. So because it’s been reported to us, we’ll reach out to Mr Kyrgios through Tennis Australia. We don’t issue fines or anything like that without speaking to people to understand the circumstances and firstly identify that it is him.”
He further added:
“We’ve seen significant injuries in the city throughout this trial where people have hit their heads and the like. It’s
a $231 fine for the rider of the scooter in this trial area (for not
wearing a helmet) ... or a passenger. And it’s a $185 fine for anyone
who has a passenger on that scooter.”
