Hugo Gaston has been fined a whopping €133,000 by the ATP for repeatedly breaking the unsportsmanlike conduct rule against Borna Coric in Madrid.
L'Equipe reported that the World No.108 was charged with trying to change the outcome of a point against Coric and was caught on camera taking a ball from his pocket and dropping it to the ground.
This in the hope that the umpire would call a let on Coric's serve and order it to be replayed. It seems the Frenchman to has form for this after previously being warned by the ATP.
The fine has cancelled out all of Gaston's earnings this season standing at around $121,712.
“In circumstances that are flagrant and particularly injurious to the success of a tournament, or are singularly egregious, the ATP Supervisor may refer the matter to the ATP Fines Committee who shall conduct an investigation to determine whether the player Major Offense of Aggravated Behavior or Conduct Contrary to the Integrity of the Game has occurred. Prize money earned at that event shall be held by ATP until the ATP Fines Committee has concluded their investigation and made a determination.” The rulebook states.
