Andrey Rublev finds himself one win away from gaining qualification to the season-ending
ATP Finals.
The World N0.5 defeated Alexei Popyrin in straight sets, and will now improves his chances of qualifying for Turin. The ATP Finals kick off on November 12, 2023 and will see the top 8 players at the end of the season battle for supremacy.
Rublev one win shy of clinching ATP Finals berth
The Russian was pleased after his victory over Popyrin, and later gave a unique analogy when asked for his thoughts on being so close to qualifying for Turin.
"Of course, every match it feels like you're one step closer," admitted Rublev. "It's like the door is open and I see what's inside, but I'm not inside the room yet. There are sofas, colas, cold drinks but you can't enter to take it."
Rublev will get his chance at the aforementioned cola and soft drinks in Turin if he defeats Italian Matteo Arnaldi in their round of 16 clash in Vienna.
