Dominic Thiem is into his first final since 2020 and could seal his first title since the US Open of the same year on Sunday afternoon, as his home hero run at
Kitzbuhel Open continues.
Thiem saved five match points and ousted fifth seed Laslo Djere 7-6(3), 5-7, 7-6(8) to reach the final, with Djere himself in superb form as of late.
He reached the final of Hamburg last weekend and has now backed that up with a run in Kitzbuhel, but the power of Thiem is evident.
Thrilling throughout, he produced epic backhand winners and held his nerve on serve throughout a three and a half hour battle.
He remained unbroken throughout fending off 12 separate opportunities from Djere.
Next up will be Sebastian Baez with the crowd hoping to will him to a first title since his comeback. One that has been arduous and has made Thiem at times think about his future but it could all be worth it on Sunday.
It would be a 17th tour level crown and potentially the most sweetest yet for the Austrian as he heads back towards the tournament which he won back in 2020. It would also give a ranking boost in the process.
