Stan
Wawrinka will return to the top-100 tomorrow after reaching the quarterfinals
of the
Open 13 Provence.
The
37-year-old tennis player has struggled with injuries over the last few
seasons. In 2021, he was part of the top-20, but after two surgeries, he fell
out of the top 200 players in the world. "Stan the Man" continued to
fight despite expectations of his retirement, and showed that with hard work,
he can still compete.
The Swiss
player managed to return to the top-100 thanks to reaching the quarterfinals at Rotterdam last week and the quarterfinals of the Marseille Open this
week. The tennis player shared an emotional reflection on Twitter:
“Work hard and follow your dreams, but never forget where you came from.
Young me dreaming of entering the top 100 ATP. Old me entering the top 100 ATP
again! I achieved way more than I could have dreamed of but it’s always gonna
be special!” said Wawrinka.
Former
world No. 3 is one of the most successful players in recent years and has won
three Grand Slam titles (Australia 2014, Roland Garros 2015 and US Open 2016).
Wawrinka is now preparing to play the BNP Paribas Open Indian Wells this week.
